The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2026 was an extraordinary journey for the HKBU Marathon Team, with over 800 runners from our staff, students, alumni, and friends proudly participating. As the largest marathon team in the University’s history, this event showcased the spirit of HKBU’s commitment to health, unity, and sporting excellence, with every runner demonstrating perseverance and teamwork. This year’s participation also marked a meaningful celebration to HKBU’s 70th Anniversary, symbolising the University’s enduring spirit and collective pride.
A major highlight was the inaugural University Challenge Cup, a newly introduced competition category. HKBU participated as the only university led by our President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Wai, together with five staff members and six student athletes, displayed exceptional teamwork and dedication, earning the 2nd Runner-up position and making us proud.
In addition, this year’s marathon introduced a new live-streaming initiative, sharing the vibrant atmosphere and key moments of the event with a broader audience, demonstrating the unity and support of the HKBU community.
The HKBU booth at the venue was set up to offer runners souvenirs, refreshments, and on-site health assessments and recovery advice provided by a professional team from the School of Chinese Medicine to ensure participants’ well-being , while Baptist University Dance Association (BUDA) lifted the spirits of everyone with their lively performances, further energising and cheering on the runners.
In celebration of HKBU’s 70th Anniversary, the 2026 Marathon Team became a symbol of a strong sense of commitment and unity, which will continue to lead HKBU towards more milestones. We look forward to embracing new challenges and even greater achievements in 2027!
